In Season For May – Asparagus

Asparagus 👩‍🌾

It’s the season for wonderful British asparagus! The season only lasts for 8 weeks finishing at the end of June, so we need to make the most of this versatile and delicious vegetable.

It is packed full of goodness:
Asparagus promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine and can help reduce bloating.
It contains vitamin K, essential for healthy blood clotting and is also a rich source of vitamin C to help boost your immune system. Asparagus is a mild diuretic and is believed to help detoxify the body.

It is so easy to cook but keep cooking times short for maximum tastiness. Dress it simply with butter or a frothy Hollandaise. Griddle it, roast it, barbecue it or just steam it 👩‍🍳

Growing British asparagus is a labour of love. Each spear is harvested by hand when it reaches just the right height. A cool, crisp spring, not too wet, not too dry will help to ensure a great crop.

Our fantastic British asparagus growers are behind the delicious spears we’ve come to expect. Find fresh bundles of them at your local farm shop.

Shop local and love your farm shop 💚
